The union of Ariana and Lawrence in Houston, Texas was a truly beautiful and memorable experience. It was my first time visiting Houston, and what a wonderful reason to do so. They say everything is big in Texas, and that saying certainly holds true. Navigating the city, however, was an experience of its own—drivers seemed to be in a constant hurry, often cutting in and out of lanes with little patience. Still, the charm of the occasion far outweighed the challenges of the road.The wedding itself was small, intimate, and filled with love. The ceremony was held at the home of the bride’s uncle and his wife, Drs. Joyce and Joseph Voukep. Their residence provided a stunning and welcoming setting. The home was beautifully decorated for Christmas, with a spacious, well-manicured lawn. The backyard featured a breathtaking pool with a waterfall effect, complemented by a pool house that added to the elegance of the atmosphere.Inside the home, guests were welcomed by a grand double staircase and a living area thoughtfully arranged with white chairs, creating a serene and graceful setting for the ceremony.The ceremony began promptly with the emcee, Mr. Saye Z. Zonen, who formally introduced the occasion and then handed it over to Pastor Bishop Jerome Etinfoh. The service included moments of praise and worship, heartfelt prayers, and the reading of three scriptures:• 1 Corinthians 13:4–8, read by Lucien Edwards Sr.• Genesis 2:18–24, read by Decontee Loline• Ecclesiastes 4:9–12, read by Laide AsfiofuThese readings beautifully underscored the foundation of love, unity, and partnership before the exchange of vows between Ariana and Lawrence.Following the vows, toasts and well-wishes were offered by Ophelia Campbell, the groom’s aunt; Joyce and Joseph Voukep, the bride’s aunt and uncle; and the emcee, Mr. Saye Z. Zonen. Each message added warmth and meaning to the celebration.After the ceremony, a professionally catered dinner was served by attentive staff. The couple later changed attire and made a grand entrance, with the photographer capturing every special moment. Upon entering the beautifully decorated hall, guests were greeted by a stunning portrait of the celebrant. To the right, a red carpet and a photo booth awaited, capturing smiles and memories throughout the evening. Nearby, an inviting hors d’oeuvres table and a fully stocked bar offered every thinkable beverage, ensuring guests were well attended to from the start. By 5:00 p.m., elegantly dressed guests began to arrive, women shimmering in their evening gowns and men looking sharp in black, gray, and silver suits and tuxedos. The atmosphere was one of class and celebration. The evening’s program was masterfully guided by *MC Michael Wright Jr.*, whose energy and professionalism kept the celebration flowing smoothly. The event began with a powerful and heartfelt opening prayer led by *Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Morris*, setting a tone of gratitude and reverence. The floor was then opened for *well-wishes and tributes*, as family, co-workers, and friends shared warm memories and touching words about Vangie — a woman known for her kindness, strength, and generosity. Dinner followed, featuring a delicious serving of rice, salmon, and vegetables. One of the most touching moments of the evening came when *Fawlene*, Vangie’s daughter, delivered a moving speech about her mother’s love and life’s journey. The celebrant herself later expressed deep gratitude in her remarks, thanking everyone for their presence and love. The celebration then transitioned into a time of *joyful dancing*, beginning with the traditional Liberian Grand March. A distinguished gentleman and his lady led the way, as the crowd joined in with smiles and laughter. Last evening, I had the pleasure of attending the retirement and birthday celebration of Mrs. Laura Ketter Townsend, an event that was every bit as beautiful and heartwarming as the woman we gathered to honor. When I arrived, I was immediately struck by the sight of a large white tent set up in the backyard. The space was elegantly arranged with tables and chairs, each decorated to perfection. A lovely backdrop featuring a portrait of Laura stood tall, a fitting centerpiece for the occasion. Nearby, a bar offered every type of drink imaginable, while inside the sunroom, long tables were filled with delicious dishes, mostly Liberian food that brought a sense of home and tradition to the evening. The atmosphere was lively and warm. A stunning cake, adorned with candles, awaited its moment to be celebrated. The DJ kept the air filled with “oldies but goodies,” music that stirred fond memories and had many swaying along. Guests continued to arrive throughout the evening,, family, friends, and loved ones who had traveled from across the country to be part of this milestone. The program was guided by an engaging MC, who kept us laughing with well-timed jokes and lighthearted commentary. As the evening unfolded, family members and friends were invited to share remarks. One by one, their heartfelt speeches painted a vivid picture of Laura’s life, not only as a devoted family member but also as a community pillar, a helper to those in need, and someone who consistently went out of her way to make a difference. The stories, laughter, music, and fellowship all combined to create an evening that truly reflected Laura’s spirit. It was more than just a party; it was a celebration of a life well-lived, a career completed with honor, and the beginning of a new chapter filled with promise. Across the road, an old house stands or rather, leans, in quiet surrender to time. Its roof has caved in, its walls are weathered, and its doors barely cling to their hinges. Yet even in decay, it tells a story, one that mirrors the rhythm of life itself. Everything has a life expectancy. Every structure, every tree, every creature, even the earth beneath our feet, shares in the great cycle of becoming, being, and returning. This house was once full of life. Laughter may have echoed through its halls; warmth may have radiated from its fireplace. It sheltered dreams, families, and generations. But as seasons turned and years passed, nature began reclaiming what was once borrowed. The wood softened, the metal rusted, and the foundation slowly yielded to the soil from which it came. There is a quiet beauty in that surrender. It reminds us that nothing truly dies, it only transforms. What was once a home becomes part of the landscape again, nourishing new life. The same is true of us. We come from the earth, and in time, we return to it, not as loss, but as renewal. If we pay attention, scenes like this remind us to live gently, to cherish the moments we are given, and to accept the impermanence of all things. For in the end, every ending is simply a new beginning, the earth receiving back what it once gave in love. And in God’s divine design, endings are never final. Celebrating its 13th production, this sold-out show has clearly become a beloved annual tradition in Charlotte, and rightly so. For me personally, attending Soulful Noel has also become an annual tradition. Each year, the cast delivers a soulful, joyful, and deeply moving experience that captures the true spirit of the season. The music, energy, and storytelling come together in a way that uplifts the audience from start to finish. Congratulations to the entire cast and production team of Soulful Noel for another outstanding performance.
